Transition Period - 5/12

This was originally posted on 5/12/2011 at 2:32 PM, but my phone seems to have deleted it from my blog, so I am reposting it here:

So, I think that I've decided to try to smoothly transition into the Uberman Sleep Schedule, rather than jump straight in head first. I had "accidentally" gotten into the habit of taking midday naps a week ago or so, during my final exams, which, at the time, was very bad for my studying, but I found that after a couple days, I started to really fall asleep quickly, and stay asleep until my alarm went off. I also had a really cool dream a time or two. I'm not entirely which stages of sleep you can dream in, but I know in the fourth stage, REM, you are supposed to have real vivid dreams and such, and when you wake up straight out of that stage, you have a very good chance of remembering them. Now, I'm not saying I made it to REM sleep, but I just find it kind of cool that I was able to dream, having only been asleep for 5-10 minutes...

As far as the entire experiment is going, today was kind of day 1 for the transition period. What I mean by this, is that I will be shifting to a polyphasic sleep cycle, where I'll nap during the day, and slowly minimize how much I sleep at night. Earlier today, at 1 and 5 PM, I tried to take a nap, but just found myself lying in bed with nothing to do for 30 minutes, which is kind of what I expected. Last time, it took me quite a while of napping (and some very obvious lack of sleeping at night, as I was constantly studying) before I was able to lay down and consistently fall asleep.

So, right now, I am stalling my sleep by typing this blog (from my phone, so we'll have to see how it turns out). Yesterday was kind of a recovery day from my study sprints last week, so I slept in quite a while, however, I'll be getting up relatively early (for a college student) at around 8. I figure that I can get 5-6 hours of sleep, which will be plenty to function, and will hopefully make me tired enough to nap. We will have to see.
