Statement of Objective

So, I had a blog once before, and I made a few posts (like, 4), but I was terribly inconsistent. I think I made the first 2 posts within the same week, and I told myself: "You know, I'm going to start a blog about whatever comes to my head. Nothing interesting ever really happens, but I'll do what I can." Well, that didn't work, but now I AM doing something interesting this summer, and this blog post will be explaining exactly what that is.

Just as a warning to everyone who may stumble upon this blog, I'm pretty new to blogging, and it feels kind of weird, so, it may read awkwardly, or something. You've been warned!

For anyone that uses Twitter (because I don't have a clue what I'm doing), or wants to see this little experiment play out hour by hour, follow me @ChrisOrwin, which is think is the tag you need to find me.  If not, let me know, as I'm a Twitter noob.

Statement of Objective:
It is my objective to get on the Uberman Sleep Schedule!
What is it you ask? You could click the link and read, but that would require effort, wouldn't it?

So, what I plan to do is to switch my normal sleeping schedule from roughly midnight to 7 AM, to taking 6 naps per day, once every 4 hours.  Ultimately, I've decided to take naps at 1, 5, 9 AM and 1, 5, 9 PM.  I'll be sleeping for at most 30 minutes before my alarm goes off and I've got to climb out of bed.  Then I've got to find something to entertain myself for 3.5-4 hours until I can pass out again.  Eventually, I'll hopefully adjust to the sleep schedule and will stop finding mindless activities to do, and will start to be a bit more productive.

Where the Idea Came From:
I got an email a month or so ago from one of my friends which read something like:

"Ohh, I can't work on the project as I've only had 2 hours of nonconsecutive sleep, and I can't function right."

To which another friend replied:

"Well, there's nothing wrong with 2 nonconsecutive hours of sleep if they are spaced out equally, like ."

The was a link to a page about the Uberman sleep schedule, and I instantly became enthralled with the idea.  I did a bunch of research and reading and by far, the best source of information I've found on the subject was Steve Pavlina's Personal Development Blog.  This blog was an absolutely wonderful read (despite it being over 5 years old), and was very insightful on exactly what one can expect from doing this sleep schedule.  I highly suggest taking a look at his blog.

Why Do You Want to Do This?
I still haven't quite figured this one out, so when I do, I'll post a blog about this.  I'm really just doing it to see if I can.  I really don't have anything to do for the 22 hours awake that I'll have everyday, other than play video games, so its not like I want to try to work 2 full time jobs and have some sort of life outside of work (though, even on this sleep schedule, I wonder if its even possible).  The only thing I have going for me is determination, and massive amounts of it, and from what I've read on Steve Pavlina's blog, it'll take every ounce I can muster.

The only thing I'm not allowed to do is die, which was a rule setup by my girlfriend, after I made the statement:

"I'll do it! I swear that I'll do whatever it takes, even if it kills me!"

But other than that, she's been pretty supportive (and skeptical) of my idea.  Actually, everyone that I've talked to have been pretty supportive as well.  Its quite odd, as I usually get the "Chris, you probably shouldn't do that" line from them all the time with my other shenanigans.

Anyway, as this is a really long blog post (or is it? I'm not sure), and it still feels kind of awkward, I'll be ending it here.  The only closing notes I've got is to check out the blog, as I WILL be updating it as I feel necessary (like, once a day, or something, I'm not sure), and I'll also be updating my Twitter feed (when I can figure out how) with more rapid fire details.  I figure that a blog is nice to sum up the day's feelings, while I can spam my Twitter feed with hour by hour feelings and whatnot.  I apologize in advanced that my first 1000 tweets (is that right?) will be nothing but "OMG! IM SO TIRED!! I WANT TO DIE!!!".

But yeah, come along for the ride, it'll be nice to have you with me.
